Fractional CMO Service

Fractional CMO Service

A fractional CMO works part-time to deliver consistent strategic guidance, measurement and optimization This is the perfect route many small and mid-sized businesses with big aspirations but limited resources. A retainer-based Fractional CMO engagement allows me to spend a set amount of time per week or month dedicated to building long-term strategies that drive results for your business.

As a former CMO and member of multiple Executive Leadership Teams, I can tell you that marketing needs to have a voice at the table. Cross-functional opportunities such as growth hacking and in-product promotion can also be missed without dedicated energy being put into low-cost, high-impact marketing techniques.

Travis Staut, Fractional CMO

I’m an instinctive strategic thinker and big-idea guy with 25 years in the marketing and advertising business.

I graduated from University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s in Advertising in 1998.

I then spent 15+ years as an ad agency copywriter, creative director and executive, leading award-winning campaigns for brands such as Frito-Lay, Dr. Pepper/Snapple, Whataburger, Miller Lite, Microsoft, and many more.

In 2014, I went to the client side and held positions as VP of Marketing and then CMO for nine years.

In 2023, I launched my own practice focused on helping brands with limited resources win with better ideas and smarter strategies.

Why Hire Me As Your Fractional CMO?

By choosing me as your Fractional CMO, you are opting for a unique blend of strategic thinking, industry experience, creativity, and a proven track record of driving business growth.

Big Idea Thinking:

I value the tried-and-true. But today’s marketing environment oftentimes misses the opportunities for big, disruptive, transformative ideas. I bring a blend of both, having been an award-winning agency creative for 15 years. Whether I’m analyzing data, developing messages, or optimizing funnels, I’ve always got those wheels turning, on the lookout for innovative ways to drive explosive growth.

Quick Wins:

There are always opportunities just waiting out there for someone with a fresh perspective and inquisitive mind. I love finding and exploiting those opportunities as some of my first initiatives in any engagement.

Deep Strategic Background:

I’ve done work for brands like Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Microsoft, Chili’s, Miller Brewing, and many more. I’ve become a master at seeing the 360-degree landscape through the eyes of the brand. Companies without an over-arching strategic direction often find themselves flailing around with 100 different tactics but no idea what they’re supposed to all add up to. I can come in and unwind that behavior and bring focus and clarity to your initiatives.

Experienced Leadership:

I’ve managed teams as large as 25 and as small as…well… just me. I’ve been a member of multiple Executive Leadership Teams and know what it means to hire and lead with empathy and a commitment to developing strong, empowered critical thinkers while embracing accountability. I pride myself in finding and promoting people who embody a specific set of qualities including: Self-management; Intellectual Curiosity; Critical Thinking; and Easy to Work With.

Proven Results:

I’ve helped one company reach #10 and #5 in the Inc 5000 two years in a row; turned a flailing mobile app into a highly-profitable performer; I’ve won a national award for advertising effectiveness; And I’ve driven ARR from zero to over $20 million.

Why Choose A Fractional CMO?

Deciding which type of Marketing expert is right for you can be a difficult decision. I’ve helped break it down here. For me, the benefits of bringing in a Fractional CMO are centered around consistency and scalability. A consistent strategic vision, and the leadership to shepherd that vision into reality, are the hallmarks of a CMO. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, as they say. But for businesses who can’t afford (and likely don’t need) a full-time CMO, there are folks like me. If you’re more interested in expertise to complete a specific project or solve a particular problem, my Marketing Consulting service might be a better fit for you. Similarly, if you want to focus on developing the skills of your existing marketing team, consider my Marketing Coaching service. If you’re still not sure, contact me and let’s hop on a call!
